Patience paid of in the end

As predicted by the weather experts, today was really nasty outside. Rainfall turned into ice as soon as it hit the ground creating a massive mess around the entire area. Roads were hardly accessible until noon, which made school officials delay the startup of all morning classes here at SFU.

As soon as I woke up in the morning I was really stressed out because I knew that I wasn’t going to be able to do much, in terms of training. My plans for doing a tempo work-out at “the mall area” helped by someone biking in front of me were blown away by this crappy weather. There was nothing I could do except wait for a miracle, which was unlikely to happen. Around 3-4pm, while I was in school, I thought about the idea of running from Loretto to Cresson and back. In the mean time icy-rain had turned into light snow, which made me believe that I may be able to do something on the road. Suddenly I told myself that I could actually give it a try, even though I assumed that the Cresson road may still be difficult to use, and in the same time dangerous.

At 4:25pm I was out the door trying to get some training going on geared up with tights, hat, gloves and a light rain jacket on. Surprisingly, the road was not too bad, except some parts of it and the challenge of paying attention to cars passing by. It took me 30:31 to get from Loretto to Cresson(4.7M) at a cruising pace, and hammered the last 4.7 miles on my way back from Cresson in a time of 24:56, which is 45 sec faster that what I ran 2-3 weeks ago. Together with cool down I ran a total of 64 min and stretched well after to complete the whole training session for the day.

In terms of training, today it could not’ve turned out better than it did. Until 2pm I honestly didn’t think I was going to do more than a light run or maybe not even than, but in the end things came along just fine.

Tomorrow I will have to be at the Pittsburgh Airport to pick up one of my top recruits, who’s coming to visit SFU together with his family. This means that I may not have time to do more than just a light run.

I just checked th results of the Millrose Games... the winning time in the mile was 3.57.51, 2nd was 3.57.90 and the third was 3.58.14. So your time last week s still the 4th best in the world as of this date! Nice going. Now you have to get better! I am working on the invitaion to the Tyson Invitational for you in the Invite race. Several calls have been made on your behalf. Work hard and show these people in this area just what an Olympic athlete is like.
